Train your mind as well as your body
Mental wellbeing is just as important as physical fitness.
This page brings together free, confidential support and simple tools to help you feel better — in and out of the gym.
You don’t need to be “at breaking point” to use these resources.
If something doesn’t feel right, support is available.
Feeling Overwhelmed, Anxious, or Low?
Stress, anxiety, low mood, and burnout can affect anyone — including people who train regularly.
Life pressures, work, finances, sleep, and expectations can all impact how you feel and how you train.
You are not weak for struggling.
Support is available, and it works.
Free & Confidential Support (UK):
- NHS Talking Therapies – Self-refer for anxiety, stress, or low mood
- Samaritans – 24/7 listening support if things feel overwhelming
- Mind – Clear information and advice on mental health
You don’t need a GP referral to get started.
Gym Anxiety & Building Confidence
Feeling nervous in the gym is far more common than people admit — especially when starting out, returning after time off, or training alone.
At Buzz Gym:
- Most people are focused on their own workout
- You’re allowed to take breaks, leave early, or change your plan
- There is no “right” body or fitness level here
Tips that may help:
- Try quieter times if crowds feel stressful
- Use headphones to create personal space
- Start with short sessions — consistency matters more than duration
- Remember: confidence comes after showing up, not before
Everyone starts somewhere. Including the people who look confident now.
Motivation, Burnout & Balance
Training should support your life — not drain it.
If you’re feeling:
- Unmotivated or exhausted
- Guilty about missed sessions
- Stuck in an all-or-nothing mindset
- Physically training but mentally burnt out
You’re not failing — you may just need rest, support, or a reset.
Helpful reminders:
- Rest days are part of progress
- Motivation comes and goes — habits matter more
- Doing something is better than doing nothing
- Your mental health affects your physical results
Small, sustainable steps beat perfection every time.
Body Image & Self-Worth
Social media, comparison, and unrealistic fitness standards can affect how we see ourselves.
Buzz Gym believes:
- Fitness is about health, strength, and wellbeing — not appearance
- Progress looks different for everyone
- You don’t need to change your body to deserve respect
If body image is affecting your confidence or enjoyment of training, you’re not alone — and support is available.
You are allowed to train for how you feel, not how you look.
Crisis & Immediate Support
If you feel unsafe or at risk right now, please seek immediate help.
- Call emergency services
- Contact Samaritans (24/7 support)
- Call NHS 111 and ask for urgent mental health help
If you’re not in immediate danger but things feel overwhelming, reaching out early can make a real difference.
If body image is affecting your confidence or enjoyment of training, you’re not alone — and support is available.
